Safe Power Trailers

Problem
A local power company wanted a safer solution for connecting batteries to natural gas bottles on their remote power trailers. Specifically, they wanted to decrease the potential of sparking a gas explosion when powering up their power trailers. So they contacted CME for help.​

Cost-Saving Cable Rework

Problem
CME won an award on a Build to Print contract but realized that the print had a wire harness design error that led to cable abrasion and poor sealing capability.

Taking the Initiative

• Identified the issue with the Build to Print design that prevented the product from closing completely.
• Used off the shelf braiding to contain wires and provide abrasion resistance for cables that are currently in loose bundles.

Cost-Saving Results
The CME engineering team found a cheap and easy solution to modify the provided print while still delivering the required product. This solution saved the customer roughly $500,000 in retooling costs by implementing a new design with non-abrasive cable coating.

Before CME:

• Product couldn't close properly due to an error in build to print design
• ~$500,000 retooling cost
• Cable abrasion due to loose cable design

After CME:
✔ Product closes completely with updated specifications designed by the CME engineering team
